Benefits of a MITESOL Membership
Why should I become a MITESOL member?
MITESOL members become more knowledgeable and skilled in the field of English Language teaching and learning. They are provided with resources, networking opportunities and professional learning.
Members collaborate with educational institutions, agencies, and professional associations to identify and resolve issues in English teaching and learning. MITESOL members join an active community of researchers, educators, and colleagues to help support your professional growth. Curious to learn more? MITESOL seeks to serve all Michigan teachers who work with multilingual learners.

Conferences & Webinars
MITESOL
We host an annual conference each fall that provides professional development opportunities for researchers, teachers, and teacher educators at all levels, from pre-K through adult. MITESOL members receive a discounted registration fee to attend the annual MITESOL conference. Our conferences emphasize practical and hands-on sessions, as well as opportunities to connect with colleagues old and new.
TESOL
MITESOL selects the “Best of MITESOL” presentation annually and nominates that presentation to present at the International TESOL Convention and Expo. Our “Best of MITESOL” presentations have been selected to present at TESOL in previous years.
WEBINARS
MITESOL hosts an annual spring webinar on a topic affecting the wide range of MITESOL interests for MITESOL members' professional development. These webinars are FREE for all MITESOL members. Past topics include culturally responsive teaching, financial literacy for multilingual learners, AI in the multilingual classroom, and advocacy for multilingual students.
High Quality Publications
Access to and opportunities to publish in:
- MITESOL Messages: This is a members-only publication where MITESOL members are able to share what they're working on, like lesson plan ideas, comics, special projects, research opportunities, classroom innovations, teaching tips, and reviews of books and/or materials. We also share updates about the professional development activities we host and the travel grants we sponsor. Additionally, updates from our Interest Section Leaders (Advocacy, K-12, Adult-Ed, and Post-Secondary) share updates from the fields on issues impacting multilingual learners. Finally, this is a great way to stay in contact with our leadership.
- MITESOL Journal: publishes peer-reviewed, scholarly articles on topics related to the teaching and learning of English as an additional language (e.g., research papers; articles on issues in TESOL; research-based teaching techniques; reviews of book/material published within the last 3 years). The MITESOL Journal has been accessed by researchers from all across the world, and is a great opportunity for novice and intermediate researchers as we aim to serve as a mentoring journal, too.
