Advocacy Action Center

2024 Advocacy Action Center at MITESOL

Stop by the advocacy action space in the exhibitors area at the conference this Saturday to actively participate in focused advocacy campaigns.

Or... All of the campaigns are laid out and linked below for you to take action NOW!

MITESOL ADVOCACY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

MITESOL is creating a poster and social media awareness campaign for ML educators about policies that are problematic or teachers don't know about. What are your experiences? Stop by the Advocacy Action Center in the exhibitors area at the conference and talk about it.

Please fill out this survey to help us crowdsource information to share with other ML educators!

STATE ADVOCACY

MITESOL is currently supporting three state legislative campaigns championed by Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC):

Each action alert link offers an email draft to be launched in Gmail and sent to pertinent policymakers. In addition, the Drive SAFE link provides a call script to use when calling policymakers by phone.

  1. Drive SAFE Bills  - Take Action!  *High Priority*

  2. FAFSA Bill  - Take Action!

  3. Child Labor Bills: Take Action!

FEDERAL ADVOCACY

A message from Jeff Hutcheson, Director of Advocacy and Public Policy - TESOL International Association:

TESOL International’s advocacy efforts will be to focus on building relationships with new and returning policymakers of the 119th Congress.

Current bills in TESOL’s Advocacy Action Center will expire on January 3, 2025 when the 118th Congress officially adjourns and the 119th begins. Advocates are encouraged to review those federal campaigns and gear up as TESOL’s policy team seeks champions to reintroduce legislation that did not pass in the 118th Congress.

TESOL is also putting a focus on having members build one's own advocacy, whether local, state, or federal. Save-the-date announcements for the 2025 Advocacy Action Days will be made by mid-November.

Another advocacy piece that is beneficial is the impact of TESOL and the support for members (not just policy). There is a new section on which members can submit an advocacy action request on TESOL’s Statements and Action page.

Let's interact! Let's talk! Let's get started!

Look for current updates on the MITESOL website Advocacy page and please email Sharon Umlor, MITESOL Advocacy Coordinator, with any local/state advocacy issues, questions or updates you have! advocacy@mitesol.org
