    Director, Intensive English Institute

    College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

    The IEI Director provides leadership for and oversight of the Intensive English Institute.  The successful candidate will develop, administer, and evaluate IEI academic programs; oversee recruitment, training, and management of IEI teaching, technical, and clerical staff; oversee the financial aspects of the IEI, including control of the budget, allocation of resources, and marketing; formulate and implement policies relating to the IEI in consultation with staff; and represent the IEI on campus, with outside constituencies and within the profession.  The IEI Director may also teach an IEI class, schedules permitting.  The IEI Director reports to the Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS).





    Earned PhD in second language acquisition or a related field;

    Experience in teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL);

    Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills, both oral and written.



    Familiarity with university-level operations; supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership of a team of professionals; demonstrated budgeting experience; experience in a leadership position in an Intensive English Program; experience in teacher training.


    Salary and Appointment Information

    This is a full-time twelve-month academic professional position. Salary is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the personal characteristics required to assume a demanding and significant role requiring administrative leadership.  The preferred starting date is on or before August 16, 2014, but if needed, adjustments can be made to accommodate the selected candidate.

    Location: Indiana University EAP Program in the Department of English

    The English for Academic Purposes Program in the Department of English at the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI is seeking applicants for a lecturer position. This renewable, ten-month, non-tenure teaching appointment begins Aug. 1, 2014.

1. Teach intermediate and advanced-level EAP courses, especially reading, grammar and speaking (a 4-4 course load or 12 credit hours/semester).
    2. Help coordinate associate/part-time faculty3. Serve on the EAP Program Coordinating Committee

    Required qualifications include:
    A Master's degree in TESOL or related field; two years of experience teaching English as a Second Language in a university setting; demonstrated ability to use a variety of active and student-centered teaching methods; and native-like proficiency in English. Experience with CALL preferred.

    Assessment to be scored: edTPA is designed for the profession by the profession, edTPA was developed by teachers and teacher educators from across the nation, in collaboration with faculty and staff from Stanford University, to support candidate learning and preparation program growth and renewal. Aligned with the Common Core State Standards and InTASC Standards, edTPA assesses teaching that promotes student learning in diverse contexts.

    edTPA is a subject-specific assessment of pedagogy, available in 27 teaching fields, that requires pre-service candidates to document and demonstrate that they can plan, teach, and assess major learning outcomes within their field of expertise.

    Training: Scoring training includes about 20 hours of self-paced online modules and interactive web-based sessions, once qualified, scoring will begin. The system is available for online-training and scoring 6:00 am - 11:59 pm CST seven days a week.

    Qualfications: Pearson is hiring teacher educators and accomplished teachers to score edTPA from a secure, private location such as home or office. Qualified candidates will complete training, pass a qualification and then score edTPA assessments.

    The position requires a part-time commitment, in addition to the following:

    - Expertise in the subject matter or developmental level of the teaching field (degree and/or professional experience)
    - Teaching experience in that field (or teaching methods or supervising student teachers in that field)
    - Experience mentoring or supervising beginning teachers

    Job Description: Under limited supervision, uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to educate adults in which English is not their primary language on the verbal and written skills needed.     • Manage routine administrative functions of the classroom including recording daily attendance, enforcing attendance policy, collecting assignments, and contacting absent students and encouraging their return to class.
    • Create and provide progress reports and report cards at required intervals.
    • Hold regular office hours to be available for student questions and assistance.
    • Maintain student waiting list.
    • Maintain currency in ESL education techniques targeted toward adult learners.
    • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles, methods, and techniques of adult learning.
    • Individual and group behavior.

    Skill in:
    • Design and delivery of lesson plans targeted to adult learners.
