The MDE is merging the Secure Central Registry (SCR) with MOECS (Michigan Online Educator Certification System)

This process began on August 1st and should be completed around the end of this calendar year.

    What does this mean?

Only persons that have been issued a certificate or license from the MDE will be able to have their SCECHs uploaded to the Secure Central Registry (SCR) and your PIC number will now be required in order to have your SCECHs uploaded.  You must have your PIC number to complete all forms at the Conference.

If you don’t know your PIC number and you have an account in MOECS, just log into your account (www.michigan.gov/moecs) and in the manage demographics area look just above the education history section.

If you don’t have a MOECS account yet, go to www.michigan.gov/moecs and in the login box choose “Create a MEIS account”.  Once you get the required information entered, print out your confirmation page for future use.  Follow the instructions to create your MOECS account and then after you update and save your demographic information, select manage demographics from the left navigation menu.  Your PIC number will be located above the education history section.

The user name and password that you use to create your MEIS account will be used to access MOECS.

    Congratulations, Khila Pokharel

TESOL International Albert H. Marckwardt Grant Awardee

In recognition of his active engagement in and contributions to the field, as well as his commitment to its future, TESOL awarded MITESOL member, Khila Pokharel, the prestigious Albert H. Marckwardt Travel Grant for 2015. The award helped to support Khila's participation in the 2015 TESOL International Convention & Expo, in Toronto, where he presented both a poster (Preparing to teach EFL/ESL abroad) and a Teaching Tip session (Beat the teacher).

Khila is a second-year MATESOL student at Central Michigan University, where he works as a graduate assistant in the Writing Center. As a teacher and teacher-educator from Nepal, he has presented his work at numerous regional and international conferences—including those organized by MITESOL, TESOL International, Illinois TESOL/BE, Michigan Writing Center Association, and Nepal English Language Teachers’ Association (NELTA). He has also introduced many of his colleagues in Nepal and Michigan to these organizations, endeavoring to foster their professional development.

Khila said he is indebted to and proud of his professors, students, and colleagues—at CMU, MITESOL, TESOL, US Embassy /Kathmandu, US Peace Corps /Nepal, the British Council, and NELTA—for the tremendous opportunities they have provided him to learn online, face-to-face, and from print.
