    Dearborn Adult Education has 2 Part-Time ESL positions 


    Looking for an ideal candidate to become part of our outstanding team!

     

    ESL Instructors are needed part-time (6 + hours per week) to teach English to non-English speaking adult students during the afternoon (Monday-Thursday 4:00 p.m. - 7:00) and evening (Tuesday & Thursday 6:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m.) These positions run from September to May and follow the district's calendar. A valid Teaching Certificate or TESOL is a MUST. Qualified candidates only please. 


    One part-time position to teach Language Arts/Social Studies

    Looking for a highly qualified instructor to teach the Language Arts and Social Studies portion to students of ESL/GED and provide college opportunities to English Language Learners that have immigrated to the Unites States at the age of 16 turning 17 during the current school year, up to the age of 18 of the current school year. Eligible students are 16-18 year old student eligible to enroll in high school but lack transcript information and or credits to attain a Michigan High School Diploma per the Michigan Merit Curriculum Expectations by the age of 20.


    A valid, current Michigan Teaching Certificate is required for all positions. Secondary Certification in the core content areas and experience in Edgenuity is preferred. Classes run Monday - Friday3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. based on class size. Classes run for 15 weeks in the fall and winter.

    Language Center International (LCI) is located in Southfield, Michigan. 


    We are soliciting resumes for ESL instructors at Language Center International in Southfield Michigan for the January/February term. There may also be a need for instructors during the November/December term. Classes meet Monday – Friday.


    November/December term will run October 30th-December 15th

    January/February will run January 8th-February 23rd


    Part-time Positions for ESL program:

    All applicants must have a minimum of a BA degree. Preference is given to applicants with an MA or higher in ESL, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or Foreign Languages. Applicants without a degree in ESL should have a minimum of the equivalent of three months of full-time ESL teaching experience, or a certificate in teaching ESL or foreign language that includes a practice teaching component. All applicants should have experience working with adult international students in a classroom teaching environment; possess native or near native abilities in English with minimal errors in writing and

    speaking and have good communication skills and knowledge of computer operations. Knowledge of a second language and overseas experience are preferable but not required.


    New part-time instructors with a BA start at $22 per hour. MA instructors start at $23.

    AmeriCorps English Language/Family Literacy Instructor


    Full-time for 12 months (Start date of August 8, 2017)


    Pay: total living stipend of $12,630 (distributed biweekly)


    Location: Grand Rapids and Wyoming area


    The Literacy Center of West Michigan is seeking highly-effective instructors to help parents in area schools learn English and develop strategies to support their children’s literacy. The ideal candidates for this full-time teaching position will be detailed-oriented, knowledgeable of effective teaching strategies,

    and autonomous. This position requires the selected candidates to be screened and approved through the national AmeriCorps program.


    Position Overview:


    ELL Instruction:

    - Teach adult ELL classes (6-8 classes per week/2 hours per class) to parents in Grand Rapids Public Schools and Godwin Heights Public Schools on-site at the schools

    - Develop contextualized lesson plans and activities from that address learner goals and needs based on pre-determined curriculum

    - Execute components of the Family Literacy model, including weekly parenting discussions

    - Attend school events to promote the program and recruit potential learners

    - Maintain accurate and up-to- date attendance and testing records

    - Submit required data and reports by specified deadlines


    Collaboration:

    - Collaboratively plan, coordinate, and execute monthly literacy events for the learners and their children

    - Work closely with school staff to build relationships and promote program including attending Community School Leadership Team meetings

    - Attend AmeriCorps and Family Literacy Program team meetings at the Literacy Center of West Michigan

    - Publicize the Literacy Center of West Michigan in the community

    - Participate in periodic AmeriCorps events to promote civic engagement

    - Collaboratively plan service project events for National Days of Service


    ESL Tutoring:

    - Prepare individualized lesson plans and tutor 1-2 learners one-on- one, weekly


    Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

    - College degree, some coursework in education, English as a Second Language, or Linguistics highly preferred

    - Preference given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish

    - Excellent control of the English language and ability to think analytically about language

    - Experience teaching ESL

    - Schedule flexibility for required day and evening responsibilities


    AmeriCorps Requirements and Benefits:

    - Must pass local, state, and national FBI background and sex offender registry check

    - Must be U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States

    - Full-time (35-40 hours per week) with little time off during required service period

    - Day & evening hours necessary, with some weekend hours required

    - An Education Award of $5,815 will be available at the end of service period to members who fulfill service-hour requirements

    In Troy:

    • 96415: Adult female, native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, would like lessons to be at her office three days per week: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 5:00pm-6:30pm. She is in the area on corporate assignment and is at an advanced English level, and her company has approved for him to take up to 50 hours of lessons. She would like to focus on vocabulary, oral/written comprehension, and correspondence, especially in a business context.


    Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience teaching ESL, adult literacy, or developmental English. Tutors will have the opportunity to be considered for other local and online teaching assignments. Global LT’s tutors are independent contractors who create their own lessons and select materials based on their students’ needs.
