    Calvin College (http://www.calvin.edu) seeks an ESL Instructor/ Academic Counselor. This position is responsible for providing English as a Second Language writing instruction and Cross Cultural Engagement (CCE) instruction for both international and American/Canadian students, to serve as faculty advisor to international students, and to provide academic counseling to students on academic probation. This position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in English as a Second Language, Education, Counseling or related area; three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience teaching English as a Second Language at post-secondary level required. Strong organization, written and verbal communication, and counseling skills required. Experience in an academic and cross-cultural environment is also required. This is a 10 month position. The expected start date is August 2014. Position is open until filled.

    Job Details:

    Global LT is currently looking for an ESL tutor for a client in Holland to start immediately.  Our client is the spouse of a corporate executive who relocated from Germany on an international job assignment.  She is a beginner in English and would like to have lessons twice per week, preferably Tuesday & Thursday from 12:00-2:00pm or Monday & Wednesday from 11:00am-1:00pm.  There is some flexibility with the schedule, if need be.  Please inquire for additional schedule options.  The lessons will take place at her home in Holland.

     

    Global LT, Inc. hires tutors as independent contractors.  Tutors are responsible for providing an individualized program based on the goals and needs of each client.  An allotted budget is provided for the purchasing of materials for the client.

     

    Qualifications:

    We prefer instructors with a minimum of 2 years teaching and/or tutoring experience.  A bachelor’s degree and/or teaching certification in a related field of study is also strongly preferred.

    Job Title: Director Intensive ESL Program

    Western Michigan University seeks a visionary leader for its Center for English Language and Culture for International Students (CELCIS). The CELCIS Director reports to the Associate Provost of the Haenicke Institute for Global Education (HIGE). The director works closely with the Associate Provost, senior Institute staff and CELCIS faculty and staff to expand the programs offered through CELCIS to serve and meet the needs of a wide range of international students in keeping with the expanding scope of Western Michigan’s global and international programs. Tenure is negotiable for a suitable candidate.

    CELCIS was founded in 1975 and is fully accredited. Its specialists hold advanced degrees in ESL and/or applied linguistics. CELCIS is one of two intensive English programs in Michigan accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and is a member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP) and University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP). CELCIS enrolls about 250 students per term.

    Western Michigan University is a nationally recognized research university classified as high research by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.     Major Duties:
    Provide leadership and supervision to faculty and staff.  Participate in the recruitment of international students for the University and CELCIS. Represent CELCIS and the University effectively in external and internal relations.  Meet the needs of international CELCIS students regarding curriculum and student services.  Manage the daily operations of CELCIS and two English for Academic Purposes bridge courses, English 3600 and 3610. Plan, budget, and manage program finances. Make all employment decision recommendations and conduct evaluations. Participate in strategic planning and assessment.

    Required Qualifications:
    Masters Degree in TESL or Applied Linguistics.  Five years’ administrative experience in a university IEP, such as special program coordination, curriculum development, placement and testing oversight, accreditation, or other related experience.  Ten years’ full-time experience teaching ESL, six of which must be in a four-year college or university-level intensive English program.  Administrative experience may be concurrent with teaching experience.

    Desired Qualifications:
    At least five years’ experience teaching ESL in a U.S. institution of higher learning.
    Earned Ph.D. in TESL, Applied Linguistics or a related field.
    Experience living and teaching overseas.
    Familiarity with a language other than English.

    Language Center International (http://languagecenter.us) is seeking ESL instructors for the March/April 2014 term. Classes meet Monday to Thursday from 8:45 to 6:15 and Fridays 8:45 to 12:45. There is the possibility of evening classes and classes Friday afternoon.


    Our winter term, second session, runs from March 10 to April 25.  I (Jo-Len Braswell) am interviewing for full and part-time openings. Our program has continued to expand and we are seeking additional instructors to add to our current staff.


    Full-time Positions Expanding ESL program:

    Applicants must have an MA degree or higher in ESL, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or Foreign Languages and experience teaching ESL at a postsecondary level in a classroom environment. Additionally, applicants should possess a minimum of three months of full-time equivalent ESL or foreign language teaching experience or a certificate in teaching ESL or foreign language that includes a practice teaching component; experience instructing adult international students at a postsecondary level; native or near native abilities in English with minimal errors in writing and speaking; the ability to teach all subjects at all levels effectively; and excellent communication skills and knowledge of computer operations. Knowledge of a second language and overseas experience are preferable but not required.

    Starting salary $26,500 to $28,000 (based on experience) plus 100% employer funded health care for the instructor. Bonuses and pension plan are additional benefits.


    Part-time Positions Expanding ESL program:

    All applicants must have a minimum of a BA degree. Preference is given to applicants with an MA or higher in ESL, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or Foreign Languages. Applicants without a degree in ESL should have a minimum of the equivalent of three months of full-time ESL teaching experience, or a certificate in teaching ESL or foreign language that includes a practice teaching component. All applicants should have experience working with adult international students; possess native or near native abilities in English with minimal errors in writing and speaking and have good communication skills and knowledge of computer operations. Knowledge of a second language and overseas experience are preferable but not required.

    New part-time instructors with a BA start at $22.00 per hour. MA instructors start at $23 to $25, depending on the assignment. Bonuses and pension plan are additional benefits.

    Director, Intensive English Institute

    College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign


    The IEI Director provides leadership for and oversight of the Intensive English Institute.  The successful candidate will develop, administer, and evaluate IEI academic programs; oversee recruitment, training, and management of IEI teaching, technical, and clerical staff; oversee the financial aspects of the IEI, including control of the budget, allocation of resources, and marketing; formulate and implement policies relating to the IEI in consultation with staff; and represent the IEI on campus, with outside constituencies and within the profession.  The IEI Director may also teach an IEI class, schedules permitting.  The IEI Director reports to the Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS).

     

     

    Qualifications

    Required:

    Earned PhD in second language acquisition or a related field;

    Experience in teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL);

    Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills, both oral and written.

     

    Preferred:

    Familiarity with university-level operations; supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership of a team of professionals; demonstrated budgeting experience; experience in a leadership position in an Intensive English Program; experience in teacher training.

     

    Salary and Appointment Information

    This is a full-time twelve-month academic professional position. Salary is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the personal characteristics required to assume a demanding and significant role requiring administrative leadership.  The preferred starting date is on or before August 16, 2014, but if needed, adjustments can be made to accommodate the selected candidate.
